With reference to Sir G. Grindle's letter of the 20th ultimo (12493/1924) relative to the remuneration of the Chief Justice of Hong Kong for serving as a member of the proposed Court of Appeal at Shanghai, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Ramsey MacDonald to state, for the information
of Hr. Secretary Thomas, that the Treasury have now sanctioned officially the arrangement proposed in the
Their letter from this department of the 15th ultimo. Lordships again stipulate, however, that the metter should be reviewed on the first occurrence of a vecaney in the post of Chief Justice at Hong Kong and Mr. Ramsay MacDonald hopes that it will then be possible to regard the work for which the allowance is granted as a normal part of the

Chief Justice's duties. He will be glad to receive Mr. Thomas' views on the matter on the occurrence of a
vacancy.
